Family Portrait: Sadie, Emersyn, & Matt

While we love our clients, the truth is that we have families, too. So, when Sadie needed family portraits, who else would she hire but herself…er…um…her business partner, Pugs!

It started out a bit tongue in cheek, but treating Sadie as a client and taking her though the whole process of sending her the info packet, sitting down for a pre-session consultation, booking the session… all the way through the session itself and proofing the photos, was actually as fun and easy as it is with any “real” client.

Obviously, since we’re best friends as well as business partners, the Pre-Session Consultation was light and easy, but it covered all of the same details that we always cover during the consultation: the overall look and feel Sadie wanted in the portraits, specific shots we needed to be sure to capture, and the date/time for the session. In a normal consultation we cover any questions that the client might have regarding anything in the info packet, but instead we talked about how to improve the packet itself - hiring oneself has its benefits!

The session itself was a blast! The addition of Sadie’s dog and two kittens (her older cat was having nothing to do with it!) added a dose of cuteness and chaos to the shoot! We specifically chose to shoot during the evening “Golden Hour” just before sunset to get that naturally warm, glowing, golden light.

Outdoors, we relied on the natural light of the golden hour sun. For the indoor shots, we used two 36” reflective umbrellas, one to either side of the camera positioned just above eye level. Each umbrella had a 400W monolight strobe firing into it.
